All Change at ICOM Energy Association

Barry Webster

President Barry Webster is looking forward to his second year in his role however realises that there will be additional challenges with new legislation for the industry to overcome in the coming year.

When the association was confronted with the fact that their Technical Director of four years had chosen to move to the NHS, they anticipated that his post would be extremely difficult to fill. Luck was however on their side, as a chance encounter at a meeting that their Chief Executive does not normally attend, proved to be very beneficial. Unknown to him at the time, a casual conversation with someone he had known for many years, provided a potential solution.

After an informal meeting and formal interviews, the association’s Finance & General Purposes Committee were able to offer Robert Burke, a new post within ICOM as their Technical Director & Deputy Chief Executive.

Robert says, “Having worked on Technical Standards for many years now and for the last two with HETAS, I am sure that it will not be long before I am ‘up-to-speed’ with the related Standards, legislation and challenges that face the Industrial, Commercial Heating, Hot Water and Steam Boiler sectors”.
Peter McCree, their current Chief Executive, is due to retire at the end of September after almost eight years in his post. Fortunately, this will provide ample time for Robert to take over the additional role. The association will by then have appraised the current workload and be in a position to decide what additional support the new Chief Executive will require.

President Barry Webster commented, “We are delighted that Peter was able to find such a capable replacement for our very able Technical Director and that there will be time to hand over responsibilities”.
